The 2009 budget claims to be green but is propping up the motor industry at a time when oil is becoming more costly to obtain. It is more rewarding of failure: failure to plan for a post-oil future.

Instead of incentivising people to trade old cars for new, why not encourage people to keep their existing cars - they’re designed to last longer than we think, it would save money and reduce waste?

The government, during these cash-strapped times, should do more to promote healthy, naturally produced food, as it’s often cheaper than branded, processed alternatives.

If MP's took a reduction in expenses on the chin, they'd appeal to the cash-strapped public and maybe win some favour. Then we can put an end to u-turns and nose-rubbings for non-essential luxuries.
